Overview

Praveena is a warm and experienced clinical psychologist who loves working collaboratively with people from all walks of life. She specialises in supporting children and adolescents manage their behaviour/emotions, navigate stress and developmental transitions, as well as supporting parents and families to work towards strong and meaningful family relationships. She is currently completing her PhD with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Health, in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry, South Western Sydney Local Health District. Her research focuses on understanding the factors that underlie parenting sensitivity and reflective functioning. She is passionate about developing interventions and programs that support parents early in their journeys and working to end the cycle of intergenerational trauma. She is also interested in supporting those with a history of trauma. She is trained in several trauma-informed modalities, including EMDR, DBT, Schema Therapy, Narrative Therapy and ACT. Praveena works within an ‘attachment-based’ and relational framework, which recognises that our life experiences, particularly our experience of being with others, often impacts on how we relate to ourselves. To ensure best practice service provision, Praveena integrates her extensive clinical experience, the latest scientific evidence, and her clients' unique values and goals. She also works collaboratively with other health professionals, including GP's, psychiatrists, hospital staff and allied health specialists to ensure her clients receive the most comprehensive care.
