Overview

Christina Knappe is a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist; a Member of the Clinical and Counselling Colleges of the Australian Psychological Society; a Psychology Board of Australia accredited Supervisor; and the Director of Insight Clinical Psychology Practice - a private practice in Penrith area, NSW. Christina has 20 years experience in mental health care. Alongside private practice, this has included since 2004 to 2019 working at St John of God Richmond Hospital (SJOGH) focusing on PTSD/Trauma, Mood disorders, Addictions and Psychogeriatric treatment. At SJOGH, Christina has worked extensively across all services and as a Senior Clinician has led the DBT treatment team, been a key member of the PTSD treatment team, and supervised staff, psychology students and organisational groups - internal and external to the organisation. Christina has extensive experience in providing assessment and treatment for individuals, groups, couples and families presenting with a range of mental health disorders and difficulties. Christina utilizes a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Mindfulness-based Interventions, and Couples/Family Therapy. Christina’s therapeutic approach is to establish a warm and empathic therapeutic relationship that is client-centered and promotes a client’s autonomy and choice. Christina has a special interest in working with adults and older adults in the areas of: trauma – in particular Posttraumatic Stress disorder and Complex Trauma; Depressive disorders; Anxiety disorders; Adjustment and Stress related difficulties; Loss and Grief; Co-morbid disorders; and Relationship counselling. Christina also has vast experience in working with Veterans, Defence Force personnel, former and current-serving Police Officers, other emergency services personnel; and their families. Christina is registered to provide psychological services for Private, Medicare, Work Cover/ CTP Insurance, ADF, DVA and Open Arms (Formerly VVCS) eligible clients. Christina also provides supervision for psychology registrars and mental health Practitioners.
