A dedicated group of professionals in areas of art, psychology, engineering and information technology proving everyone is a smart, capable, and compassionate person. We succeed in this ideal by supporting self-discovery and positive relationships to build a community of empowered individuals. All our programs are fun, adventurous and provide a safe environment. We are based at Spectrum Services Qld in Toowong, Brisbane next to the shopping village and train station. Play Path Programs: Cogs - Game Design (Ages 8-12) Our classes focus on building basic tech skills through hands-on experience. We don't just show how it's done. Each child will have a device to interact with and copy our instructions. After each lesson, we task them to discuss and work together on a design problem. Beginning with their own virtual space, they can build their ideas in an open world. That way they can invite anyone to visit virtually and give feedback on their ideas. This creates a safe social space for participants to collaborate and communicate in a structured manner to one another. Our mentors are trained to support those on the spectrum and actively present opportunities for participants to overcome social barriers, form lasting friendships and increase self-esteem. We want to impart the following skills: - Present ideas clearly and effectively. - Share and deliver constructive criticism. - Work together to solve problems. - Listening to and proactively act on feedback. - Set personal boundaries in areas such as physical contact, respect, honesty. - Experience simple command mechanics through activities. - A solid grasp on conditional logic: if/then statements, etc. - Graphical design of characters, sprites, and other objects. This may seem like a lot for pre-teens but we use industry-leading, proven software and methods to teach the children and can adjust specific goals to the progression of each participant in collaboration with a clinical psychologist. Gamer Gym (Teens 13-16) Gaming is often discouraged as "antisocial", but for many it's the opposite: an opportunity to catch up with friends and meet new people. Most popular games in the world are highly social, requiring plenty of teamwork and cooperation. Gamer Gym is building an active community in e-sports and casual gaming, and you’ll need to be involved to keep your finger on the pulse. Aside from it being a great way to keep up with news, discuss strategies, make friends and post memes (yeah, we all do it), it’s a chance to make a name for yourself. Beyond developing healthy gaming habits, we want players to be well-rounded digital citizens who actively look after their mental health and wellbeing. In collaboration with a clinical psychologist we will start each session with tips and strategies that help players create connections with others, feel a sense of social inclusion, promote healthy daily routines and make informed decisions in their online space. Adult Social Group (18+) Spectrum Services Qld, a family of professionals working with those on the spectrum. Our mission is to help individuals develop their social skills, establish friendships and learn new skills while engaging with their interest. We have a variety of games and activities to pick from and you are welcome to bring your own.
