During my 20 years of General Practice experience in a variety of demographics in metro Melbourne and London, I’ve gained great satisfaction from developing therapeutic relationships with people and have commonly attracted patients across all age groups with mental health care needs such as anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, eating disorders, addiction, chronic illness and relationship challenges. I have ongoing rewarding work as a GP in a high school setting providing team based, confidential, warm and non-judgmental mental health focussed health care to young people. I’ve enjoyed working with many neurodivergent young people as they learn to navigate their internal and external worlds. As a GP who has completed Focussed Psychological Skills Training, I have the advantage of being able to provide both the Mental Health Care Plan and the follow up 10 sessions well subsidized by Medicare. Longer term therapy can also be provided, and this is also Medicare subsidized. I can prescribe where appropriate and refer to other medical specialists or allied health when required. My therapeutic style is flexible, practical and tailored to the individual and draws on frameworks such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, psychoeducation, stress management strategies and problem solving skills.
