Dr Shelley is one of Australia's leading maternal health dietitians.
She complements over 25 years of nutrition expertise with a PhD in psychology, balancing the 'know-what' of nutrition with the 'know-how' of innovative behaviour change techniques.
Dr Shelley is passionate about helping women optimise their dietary habits and relationship with food to improve their fertility, pregnancy and long-term health and well-being into the postnatal period. She values the privilege of working with women at this key life stage, enhancing their opportunity to improve personal lifestyle behaviours with lasting positive intergenerational effects.
Previously, she was the Senior Maternity Research Dietitian at Brisbane’s Mater Mothers Hospital for 12 years. During this time she developed and delivered innovative, women-focussed programs that resulted in improved diet quality, increased fruit and vegetable intake, and physical activity levels, a need for less medication (in gestational diabetes), as well as a greater proportion of women achieving their pregnancy weight gain goals.
She achieves this through tailoring knowledge from the scientific research to women's individual lifestyles and preferences in an empathetic and non-judgemental way. Dr Shelley has also completed the Dr Rick Kausman 'if not dieting' training and incorporates many of these techniques and approaches in her counselling sessions.
