Consultant Psychiatrist
MBBS, FRANZCP
Qualifications
Dr Robert Boyd grew up in the United Kingdom. He graduated from medical school at St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2004. He moved to Australia in 2005.
Working Experience
He worked in emergency medicine, intensive care, anaesthetics, general practice, and Aboriginal health for more than ten years before undertaking his specialist training in psychiatry with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. This training was undertaken on the Gold Coast and in Northern New South Wales.
He is an Adult Psychiatrist that practices holistic care. His special areas of interest are mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia. He believes that optimal mental health is much more than merely the absence of disease. His approach to achieving this includes screening for and treating physical illnesses that may be impacting mental health, appropriate psychological interventions, social interventions, dietary modifications, exercise, other lifestyle changes, and, where necessary, medications.
His philosophy is that mind and body must be working together in order for an individual to thrive. He integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness into practice.
He has always taken a keen interest in medical education and is an accredited supervisor of trainees with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He would like to see the next generation of mental health professionals develop a passion for holistic care.
Working with Mind Oasis, he hopes to bring his broad range of skills and experience to support those in need.
