The decision to engage in therapy is a brave and commendable one. For those who allow me to join them in that journey, I endeavour to make it a safe, fun, and nurturing process of reflection and exploration.
I employ a trauma-informed and strengths-focused approach to my practice, based on the belief that often what we call ‘symptoms’ are better understood as protective mechanisms that our minds and bodies develop to survive life’s stressors. For this reason, I like to begin therapy by aiding clients in understanding how their presentation makes sense given their background and present circumstances, and in doing so enhancing their ability to make positive and rewarding change from a place of self-awareness, self-compassion, and agency.
I take a somatic (body-based) approach to symptom management, using skills from Polyvagal Theory, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and other modalities. I also incorporate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
If you wish to address maladaptive or unhelpful narratives, beliefs, and attachment wounds, we will work together to create corrective experiences in the therapy room and in your personal life, that will help you to stretch and grow.
I work with adults and young people aged 12+.
