Dr Grigota Monasterio

Psychologist

My interest and passion for health care began in my early adolescence as a volunteer at a school for children with special needs. In the years that followed I worked with people on the spectrum with high behavioural needs and also in group homes for people with chronic and severe mental illness. I then trained as a Clinical Psychologist and continued to deepen my experience and passion in the 20+ years I have worked with NSW Health in a number of different of roles. I now work with people across a broad range of issues which are listed in the following section. My therapeutic approach includes a combination of acceptance/mindfulness-based approaches with existential/meaning based themes. I use these approaches both in the therapy I provide and daily in my own life. In addition to my clinical experience, I have a diverse range of interests in my life which I bring to the work I do. I have a flexible and fluid style of therapy combined with a client-centred respectful approach. I adapt and modify our work to suit you and to achieve what you are seeking out of our sessions. Clients who have a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $141.85 per session with me. I am also a DVA, WorkSafe and TAC provider.

Dr Nathan Alkemade

Psychologist

Currently I am interested in working with adults who experience difficulties managing stress and intense emotions. Along with adults suffering from depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and trauma based psychiatric conditions. I have worked with forensic populations, people hospitalised with psychiatric disorders, individuals transitioning back into the community after hospitalisation, people struggling to find the work life balance, and adults who are looking for help to manage their distress in day-to-day living. I provide an evidence-based, person-centred compassionate approach to my clinical work. The primary goal of therapy is for me to help you develop skills to better manage intense emotions. By improving your skills to manage emotions you are better able to live the life you want. These skills are designed to not only help you know, but also leave you better equipped for life’s future challenges. To achieve this goal we will work as a team. I need to understand you as an individual to help you develop the best toolbox of skills that suit you. Often starting therapy is a difficult step to take, so therapy will only move at a pace with which you are comfortable. Clients who have a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $141.85 per session with me.

Ms Bridie James

Psychologist

Since I finished my training in 2013, I’ve worked with people from all backgrounds, who have experienced all kinds of struggles. I know that the prospect of talking to a stranger about personal things can be very confronting – which is why in every session, I’ll strive to make sure you feel comfortable and in control of the therapy journey. I primarily use Solution Focused Therapy, which works from the assumption that having a clear sense of where you want to get to – how you want your life to be different – is crucial for therapy to be successful. So rather than only focusing on the problem, a key part of the conversation is on your desired future, and how to get there. I use a strengths-based approach, which means that I see the whole person, not just a diagnosis or a collection of problems. I recognise that everyone has capabilities and strengths, even when the person themselves struggles to see those things. I believe that everyone has the right to choose their own path through life, and that hopefulness and believing in your own capability are key to good wellbeing, and to successful therapy. This is the perspective that I’ll bring to our work together. Clients who have a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $137.05 per session with me.

Ms Siouxsie Venning

Psychologist

I am a welcoming, compassionate, innovative Clinical Psychologist who enjoys connecting and working with people to support them to heal, grow and thrive. During my 20 years as a Clinical Psychologist working in private practice and across a range of health settings I have been privileged to develop a wealth of knowledge and experience. I support people with life transitions and skill building to address a wide-ranging array of issues including pain and health-related issues, anxiety, mood disorders, phobias, substance and addiction issues, grief and loss, habit disorders, eating disorders, career, study, confidence, communication, interpersonal and communication issues. I utilize evidence-based psychological techniques and/or hypnosis to assist people to achieve their goals. I love working with people to help them achieve balance, growth and resilience. I enjoy collaborating with clients to foster wellbeing and develop habits that work for them rather than against them. I use therapy with a mix of compassion and creativity to connect with clients and to encourage them to make positive change. Underpinning my work with people is the ground-breaking theory and research of Neuroplasticity. This is the discovery that the brain is able to constantly learn, adapt and change. With repetition, neural pathways are formed which literally make the behaviour (and even responses such as pain or emotional reactions) more habitual. In the case of helpful learning this is wonderful and leads to mastery. However, even in the case of unhelpful behaviours and beliefs the great news is that the more you resist an old unhelpful habit and do something different the easier it gets. Literally new pathways form and like building muscles, strengthen each time you use them. In order to facilitate this I use a variety of evidence-based techniques matched to the client’s needs. I aim to provide a warm, empathetic, safe environment for you to be able to develop the skills you need to cope with the challenges you are currently facing. I am passionate about supporting you to become the best person you can be and find health, happiness, and balance in your life. I look forward to the opportunity to meeting you and helping you on your journey. Clients who have a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $141.85 per session with me.
