What is a Creative Art-Based counselling session? Creative Art-Based counselling offers a judgment-free space suitable for anyone seeking an alternative way to express themselves. Using art as a means of expression doesn't require any expertise; it's about the process of tapping into our emotions and allowing them to guide creativity without worrying about the outcome using colour, shapes, and forms to represent feelings that may be challenging to articulate verbally. In these sessions, your therapist will provide prompts and a supportive environment to help you explore your thoughts and feelings. The focus is on personal expression and the therapeutic benefits that come from expressing, releasing, exploring, reflecting upon, and understanding your emotions through the creative process. Do I Need To Provide My Own Materials, Like Pencils And Paint? Yes, you need to provide your own materials. The materials you will need will be dependent on the focus of your session/s which your therapist will discuss prior to your session, after booking. Materials can be purchased at very reasonable prices and many people like to repeat the exercises they have accomplished in their own time. Typical materials may consist of: • A3 sized paper - This can be standard drawing paper but will need to be thicker paper for paintwork. • A selection of coloured pencils, including black and white, • General stationary items such as a pencil sharpener, an eraser and a ruler, • If painting - A selection of acrylic colour paint incl. black and white, • A small selection of different size paintbrushes and a water pot, • Air-drying clay for clay work, if desired, • Paper towel/cloth for clean-up etc, • Something to protect your clothing. What about the practical/technical arrangements of participating in an online creative counselling session? You will need a suitable space to draw/paint in the same area as your laptop/smartphone/computer. How do I proceed? Firstly, book in for your session leaving adequate time to prepare if you do not readily have drawing/painting materials to hand. After booking, your therapist shall contact you to discuss your situation and the practical arrangements for your session such as the materials required and where and how you will join the session online.
